Demo Recap 1-12-07

The demo this week was on creating kaleidoscope canes.  I referenced Elaine (TooAquarius.com)’s Cane Math for helping everyone visualize how to construct the cane with a mirrored, repeated design element.

These canes are relatively easy to construct once you understand that you should keep the initial pattern simple – generally people struggle with making their canes overcomplicated and losing the design as it reduces and gets recombined into even more complex patterns.  Starting with a simple pattern with perhaps one complex area usually results in a pretty nice looking cane.

I made these beads with the slices of kaleidoscope canes.  The top one is strung with glass rocaille beads.  The two hearts at the bottom have Swarovski® crystals in the center and are hung from a jump ring on sterling silver chain.  I call them “orbit beads”.  They’re so fun to make and to wear!
