Nail Art with Clay Canes
A new market is opening up for cane makers like me. Nail artists are using our canes to decorate artificial nails. The canes are reduced to as small as 1/8 to 1/4-inch diameters, baked, and cut into paper-thin slices while still warm. The slices are added as decorative elements to the acrylic layers of the nail.
I’ve been investigating this use of canework for about a month now, ever since an Etsy customer brought it to my attention by asking if I’d make some baked canes for her. Then last Friday, Cynthia Tinapple mentioned it on Polymer Clay Daily.
The same company Cynthia mentioned, The BeautyTech Shoppe, has started carrying my canes in their extensive list of nail art. They carry a wide variety of canes by quite a few artists. You will recognize many of their works in her list of Nail Art Clay Canes. If you would like to see samples of the canes used to decorate nails, check out the FAQ page on their website. It has a series of images if you scroll down the page.
I’ll be opening up a new section in my store and in my auction sites to carry a variety of my canes that are already pre-baked and ready for slicing to create beautiful nail art. Be looking for that soon!

Hi I purchased two AMACO slice n’ bake clay canes a few months ago along with a bunch of clay.
I took out a couple of colors and never got around to creating anything.
Then, I saw the clay canes on Beauty tech. I’ve purchased a couple of times.
My question is how long do I bake my other canes after reducing them to use them in nail art?
Also, when you get your canes ready, could you give me a notice. I would like to order from others.
Thanks so much.
