Fun exploration
I spent some time yesterday playing with slices of Fimo Nail Art canes. Of a half-dozen nails I attempted, I’ve learned a couple of things: 1, that I do better with the acrylic liquid/powder combination than I do with Magic-Glos or clear nail polish. And 2, that I can use a piece of wooden skewer with double-sided sticky tape to hold the nails while I work on them.

This picture shows two views of the same nail. I used the white jasmine and white monstera leaf cane slices on this nail. Polish was put on the nail first. Then I glued down the slices and began working the acrylic on. I worked with a wetter mix, which seemed to give me better control. Two coats of acrylic and it was smooth. A light sanding, then three coats of clear polish.
I was only able to get one good photograph of this nail in the time I had, but overall I was pretty happy with it. I love my new tiny leaves - these are 3mm and perfect size to go with the 5-6mm flowers. I have a lot of the 3mm leaf available and it will go in the store over the weekend. This rose is one of my favorites, and I do have enough of it left for a dozen packs of slices. I did a french manicure before doing the nail art and acrylic.
The next ones I want to try are the fruit slices. I’ve got 3mm and 5-6mm sizes of orange and lime, and I’m just waiting to get the other canes done before doing some sample nails with those. I’ve got a waiting list of canes that I’m working on to get wholesale and retail orders filled. So I’m putting in as much time in my studio as I can.

Thanks, Kathi!
You should try this if you haven’t already. I mean YOU don’t have to wear them. But if you’re looking to begin a line of nail art, making some of the fullsize artifical nails as samples would probably help you.
Hugs! (I’ve got Facebook on…)

Hi Cat - that is what I have been doing as well - making the nails up as samples. I sell mine down in Missouri, where my niece ans sister have been my greatest publicists!! Amazing how fast the news spreads when you have a 15 year old niece!! My 17 year old is not to much into nails so she has been less than helpful, but here where I live it is nail salons on every corner, so I may go out and see what they are doing. Yours are beautiful!! My husband was wondering why I started baking my canes whole a few months ago - he thought I had lost my mind or something!!! Keep making those pretty canes!!!!!

Debbie - I’d love to see some of your samples! That’s great you’ve been able to sell yours there in Missouri - and LOL about your sister and niece. But I’m doing the same thing - I just sent a bunch of nail art packages to my mom, sister, and niece to play with. LOL mine is a little older than 15, but I can imagine how excited your niece was to see her auntie’s crafty work on her own nails. Yes, a great way to spread the news. Definitely do check with your local nail salons - I know it’s a great niche for both us and the nail artists as well.

Just beautiful. I love both sets of nails, but the first one is really special.

Hi Beth,
Oh good, I’m glad you like it. These things are neat to explore with.
