Time to upgrade…. again??

The new releases of Wordpress 2.6 and E-commerce 3.6.7 have been out for awhile and I’ve been putting off the upgrade.  When 2.6 first came out, I’d done the upgrade and some of you will remember it didn’t go well.  I guess the Jelly theme I’m using is older, and it wouldn’t function under the new upgrade.  So I’d switched back to 2.5 because I like this theme.  But since there isn’t going to be support or 2.5 any longer, I have to move along to the new.

That means this website will have a new look.  I’m open to feedback on that, especially with ease of navigation.  Things may look a little wonky for the next hour or so… or not, depending on how much I break in here.  I can always come back to this if I need to, so the site won’t go offline.

I’ll be back to post as things go along.

Edit 2:14pm CST:
Well, as you can see, there are still some problems with the upgrade. This is basically what had me back to the previous versions of both WordPress and WP E-Commerce. But this time I’m being undaunted, and have asked for help. The WP upgrade went fine and I’m using the 2.6 release now. So the only glitches remaining are in the shopping cart upgrade. Goodly geeks are looking into the issue as I type, and hopefully before long the warnings up top will be gone. Thanks for your patience, everyone.

About ordering: You can always email me your order if you want faster service during the upgrade. I’ll send you a paypal or manual invoice, whichever you prefer. Or you could always call in your order via credit card.

Edit 8/2/08,  6:03am CST:  I’ve fixed the file associations that were the error problems, and upgraded my cart to the Gold option.  I have to get the settings in the cart finished, and then the store will be live again.  I won’t be able to do that until after the Riverfront Market today.  But after we get the minivan unpacked and have some lunch, my first order of business is to get the shopping cart finished.

Again my apologies for the delay in getting the upgrade done.  OH!  One more thing:  the E- commerce version I’m using is a beta development version.  So once I get it loaded, if you have any problems at all with ordering, please do continue to let me know.  I’m not bothered at all by that, it’s very helpful.  Thanks again.

Edit 8/2/08, 10:30pm CST:  Well, I’m nearly finished with the upgrade.  I had to do alot of manual editing (about 7 hours’ worth, trial and error.)  The shopping cart is now functioning like it should and PayPal has a functioning checkout now.  The PDF tutorials should be able to be downloaded now without having to be manually sent to PayPal customers.  (If you are paying by check or money order, though, or credit card by phone, then I will still send you the tutorial manually.)

However, the manual payment option is giving an error message when I try to checkout.  The order information does get turned in to me, so I can still send an invoice to customers who wish to pay via credit card by phone or check/money order.  Hopefully I’ll get some more reading done tomorrow and hopefully be able to fix that problem.

I do have some new things to show you, so I’m looking forward to getting back to working on new projects and tutorials.

Lastly, I wanted to give a big wave and hello to all the great customers from the RiverFront today.  It was a great day and I really enjoyed talking with so many of you who were really interested and intrigued by the potential polymer clay has to offer.

    Hi Hon,

Well, most of it. I do like a few newer widgets I’d put in (search feature, new product feature). There are alot of really cool things you can do with WordPress and yet still have a clean, easy-to-navigate website.

I love my wordpress. And even got to keep the Jelly! I know this is a really simple theme, but I like it.
